Columbus Chess League

2011-2012 Inaugural Season

Site:  Donatos Pizza, 2084 N High St, Columbus, OH (OSU campus, just south of Lane Ave).  Games will be played in the basement party room, down one flight of stairs… sorry, no wheelchair or handicap access.  On–street parking only, meters are free on Sunday.

Format: 4-board team matches (up to 4 alternates per team).  Sections of eight teams each by rating; scholastic teams welcome, but we do not anticipate having a scholastic section.  Double round robin (two rounds against each opposing team, alternating colors), G/75 with 5-sec delay.  Equipment not provided, each team must supply at least two sets and two delay-capable clocks for each round.  Extra rated games for alternates as space permits.  Side events (additional entry fee) may be added.

Schedule: 1st Sunday of each month October thru April (except 2nd Sunday in January).  Doors open 11am, 2 rounds per month 11:30am & 2:30pm.  Another monthly Sunday date may be scheduled for additional sections if response exceeds site capacity of approximately 14 teams (each team will still only play one Sunday per month).  Meeting for all Team Captains 6pm on September 25th at the playing site.

Awards:  Trophies in each section to 1st & 2nd place team members and top scoring player on each board.

Entry Fee: $70 per team for entire season (not per month), plus $50 refundable deposit (see league rules for details).  Checks payable to Fellowship of the King Chess Club., mail to Columbus Chess League, c/o Neilley & Co. CPAs, 2720 Airport Drive, Columbus, OH  43219.

Deadline:  Advance entries only.  Email entry form by September 18th to grant@neilley.com, must use Excel spreadsheet available on website.  Payment must be received by September 20th.  Late entries may or may not be accepted at organizer’s sole discretion, absolutely no on-site entries.  Team entries only, no individual entries (but see More Info below if looking for a team to join).

Food & Beverage:  We are committed to a minimum food order each day, please plan to patronize our host (additional details on website, see address below).  Alcohol is served at the site; we encourage those who wish to partake to do so in the regular dining area rather than our party room.

Note: All details are subject to change depending on the number of teams entering.  Since this is the first season, we would appreciate knowing as far in advance as possible (before your entry details are complete) if you plan to enter a team, so we can adjust plans according to response if necessary.
